OxfordAQA is a partnership between Oxford University Press (a department of the University of Oxford) and AQA, by far England’s largest providers of GCSEs and A-levels. We develop high-quality qualifications for international students that are benchmarked to UK standards.
AQA is regulated by Ofqual. It has a long-standing and well-established relationship with Ofqual as the UK’s qualifications regulator. AQA interacts with Ofqual daily. They are members of Ofqual’s formal industry committees and actively contribute to wider industry oversight and consultation opportunities, to ensure the effective operation of the qualification system in the UK.
AQA’s systems and processes have been developed over many years and always in accordance with regulatory requirements. Ofqual independently scrutinises AQA’s arrangements to ensure that they remain compliant.
Ofqual does not regulate international GCSE and A-levels. This is the case for all the international exam boards including OxfordAQA. You can check if a qualification is regulated by Ofqual via Ofqual’s public register of regulated qualifications: Find a regulated qualification – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
However, to ensure that our OxfordAQA students benefit from the same quality standards as UK students, we chose from the start to develop and deliver our OxfordAQA international qualifications using the same systems and process as those that AQA use to deliver their UK-focussed, regulated qualifications.
There is therefore no material difference in the systems, processes and quality controls in place between AQA’s regulated qualifications and those that are developed for OxfordAQA students.
Furthermore, OxfordAQA International GCSEs and A-levels have been independently evaluated by UK ENIC, the agency responsible for providing information and advice on academic qualifications from all over the world, as being at the same standard as the British GCSEs and A-levels accredited by the UK examinations regulator, Ofqual. Take a look at UK ENIC’s report.
This means that students, teachers and school can trust that OxfordAQA qualifications are equivalent to qualifications sat in the UK, and are recognised by Ministries of Education and universities across the world for progression to higher education.
